Scoring: For each game in the NCAA Basketball championship tournament you predict correctly, you will earn points in the pool. To encourage risk-taking and reward you for predicting upsets, you will earn double bonus points whenever a higher seeded team defeats a lower seeded team during rounds 1-4 only (see below for a more in-depth explanation). Each correct pick earns points as follows: Round 1=1 point plus 1 point for an upset; Round 2=2 points plus 2 points for an upset; Round 3=4 points plus 4 points for an upset; Round 4=8 points plus 8 points for an upset; Semi-finals=16 points; Championship game=20 points. Most total points at the end of the tournament wins. In the event of a tie, the contestant with the highest winning percentage wins. If a second tie-breaker is required, the participant closest to the total score of the championship game wins.
The four play-in games: As you know, the NCAA has tried to ruin the best tournament known to mankind by adding 4 play-in games, one for each region. Worse, two of the games are for #11 & 12 seeds instead of #16 seeds. In the past no one cared about the outcome of the play-in games, this year played on the Tuesday and Wednesday nights prior to Thursday's tournament tipoff. But with the current setup this presents the possibility that you might want to pick the winner of a play-in game to win in later rounds. The only reasonable way for us to deal with this situation is to allow you to make changes in your bracket, if they are already entered, after the play-in games, but before the beginning of the actual 64 team tournament on Thursday. THE ONLY ACCEPTABLE WAY TO MAKE A CHANGE IN YOUR BRACKET AFTER YOU HAVE HIT THE "SUBMIT" BUTTON IS TO E-MAIL YOUR CHANGES TO: KESSLEZ@YAHOO.COM BY NO LATER THAN 10:00 A.M. ON THURSDAY, MARCH 17TH. If you want to pick the winner of a play-in game no matter which team wins to advadvance in future rounds, then no change will be required. For example: if you think either USC or VCU will beat Georgetown in round 1, then just click on the USC/VCU button.
Underdog Scoring: To get points for Underdog Scoring a player must correctly pick a team to win a certain game as an underdog AND that team must win the game as an underdog (regardless of who they play). Points are then awarded based on Round Bonus Points. Example: Jerry picks Alabama (#15 seed) over Kentucky (#7 seed) in a 2nd Round game. With Underdog Scoring, if Alabama beats a higher seeded team (lower seed number) then Jerry would be awarded 2 points for picking the winning team and 2 bonus points for picking the underdog. Another example: Round 1: #5 Wisconsin vs #12 SW Missouri St. -- John Doe picks SW Missouri SW Missouri wins, John Doe would get points for underdog bonus. Round 1: #4 Tennessee vs #13 Delaware -- John Doe picks Delaware, Tennessee wins, John Doe gets no points Round 2: Matchup is #12 SW Missouri St. vs #4 Tennessee Joe Schlabotnick picked #12 SW Missouri St over #13 Delaware. MR. SCHLABOTNICK IS TAKING NO UNDERDOG RISK IN THIS GAME. HE IS PICKING A HIGHER SEEDED TEAM ON HIS SHEET therefore even if SW Missouri St. beats Tennessee, Joe Schlabotnick will get no underdog bonus points.
Tie Breakers: In the event of a tie, the contestant with the highest winning percentage wins. If a second tie-breaker is required, the participant closest to the total score of the championship game wins.
