TOURNAMENT NEWS

It's DABWAHA TIME folks! This year, the bracket tournament of books has its own site, so check it out at http://dabwaha.com. If you're not familiar with it, the rules are simple: we have picked a slate of 64 books in 8 categories. Starting on March 14, you will be able to select the books you think will win in competition, advancing through the rounds until we arrive at Book of the Year. Brackets must be completed by 8:00 pm EST on March 17, 2009. Voting will start March 18, 2009, and will follow as closely as possible that other March tournament, the one with the basketball (Go North Dakota State!). Polls will be hosted on the DABWAHA.com site (don't worry, we'll give you a heads up on SBTB and DA when they go up) so you can vote for your choices. TOURNAMENT RULES

1. There will be a field of 64 nominated books published in 2010 that were nominated by the readers and bloggers of Dear Author and Smart Bitches. 2. There are eight nominated books in each category. The 8 categories of books are: Young Adult GLBT Paranormal Contemporary Historical Category Novel With Romantic Elements UF crossover and Fantasy 3. Each reader who wishes to participate will have a few days to fill out his or her bracket of winners. 4. Once the tournament begins, we’ll be holding daily votes to determine which books advance through the tournament. We’re pitting book against book within the categories, and then, as the tournament advances, books will face off against one another across genre and subgenre until we reach the Book of the Year.

TOURNAMENT PRIZES

PRIZES Readers and authors are in the running for fabulous prizes. That's right: anyone who fills out a bracket is eligible to win the grand prize. And the author of the winning book will also win a prize. The reader whose bracket is the best match to the end result of the tournament will win: A selection of the books that make the Elite 8 of our DA BWAHA Tournament Mad Props Big Ups A graphic for your personal site proclaiming to all  that you are The Winnah. Round 3: Round 3 brings us closer to the end. By this time, our field of 64 will be down to 8 and the winner up to this point will receive a gift certificate and prize pack from author Lorelei James/Lori Armstrong. A Tor prize pack of ARCS and finished copies from both the SFF and Romance sections. Round 5: Round 5 leaves us with the two books left to compete in the championship round. Several Penguin books made it into the slate of finalists and you'll see many of those in a special book package sponsored by Berkley/Jove, a division of Penguin.
